Getting Started at Help from a Geek
Hello, and welcome!
You are probably here because your computer is giving you trouble, aren’t you? That is OK…it happens to the best of us! There are too many places and people out there that are trying to take advantage of your misfortune. I don’t like seeing anyone pay hundreds of dollars for simple tasks that they could do themselves, if only someone would tell them how. I aim to be that someone.
Malware
Let’s talk about malware. It’s why you are here isn’t it? If so, I encourage you to check out the Malware section of this site for ways to:
- Remove the malware that you have
- Keep it off your system, and
- Prevent you from getting it again by learning some secure computing habits
As always, feel free to contact me with any issues, recommendations, or concerns you may have.
Do you have other issues with your computer? That is understandable. An infinite number of things can go wrong with these complex devices. Check out my general troubleshooting page for help with common computer problems. If you have a more advanced issue, then head over to the advanced troubleshooting page. Since there are so many different possible issues, you might not find yours on the site. That is OK, please feel free to contact me, and I will do my best to offer my advice.
Networking
Networking has become as important as computers have in our lives. Almost every device you buy nowadays has the ability to connect to the internet. Given all of these devices, it can be a nightmare to get them all to work together seamlessly. Modems, routers, the different wireless technologies…how to set it up and keeping it all secure…please check out my Networking section for answers to questions about this subject.
Geeks Corner
Are you a budding Geek? That is fantastic! Please check out the Geeks Corner. It is the section of the site where I explain how technology works in detail. From the fundamentals of computer technology, to the latest developments, this is where you can go to learn more about how all this stuff works. Geek University hosts my video lectures, white papers, and a glossary to help explain all of the terminology behind it. My Tech Articles is where you will find all of my How-To’s, my articles on topics related to the computing industry, and my recommendations for products. It is also where you will find my advice columns with topics such as what to look for when buying a new computer, how to set it up, or what you need to know before your child heads off to college.
The intent of this site is to help you fix the problems you have, offer advice about how to prevent them in the future, and hopefully teach you one or two things about technology as it continues to become entrenched in all the different aspects of our lives. Should you have any questions, concerns, problems, or other comments – feel free to use the contact form to send me a message, or you can always hit me up on Twitter at helpfromageek.
